INSURANCE

I do not accept insurance, which allows me to keep my rates reasonable and protects your privacy. Paying privately means that your treatment is solely between you and I and that your information—including a mental health diagnosis, which is required for treatment paid for by an insurance company—is not shared with an insurance company.

I am happy to provide a “superbill”—a monthly statement which includes diagnostic and session information—for you to submit to your insurance provider. Insurance plans and benefits vary, and it is your responsibility to check with your provider regarding out-of-network benefits.

If you would like to investigate the possibility of reimbursement for out-of-network coverage, please check your policy carefully and ask the following questions of your insurance provider:

  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network mental health provider?

  • Does my plan cover a professional counselor associate?

  • I would like to see a therapist who is out-of-network; what is the process to obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider?

  • Does out-of-network therapy apply to my deductible? If so, what is my deductible and has it been met?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

PAYMENT

Accepted forms of payment, which is due at the time of our meeting, include: debit or credit cards, checks, Health Savings Account (HSA), and Flex Savings Account (FSA) cards. Cards will be added to my secure client portal and I will charge the provided card at end of each session.

CANCELLATION

If you are unable to keep an appointment, a 24-hour cancellation notice is required or you will be charged your full session fee. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to hold your session time exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.

CONTACT BETWEEN SESSIONS

If you need to contact me between sessions, you can send an email or text, or call and leave a voicemail. I am often not immediately available; however, I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.

IF YOU ARE IN CRISIS

I don’t provide 24-hour crisis services. If an emergency arises, please call 911, the Multnomah County Crisis Line (503-988-4888) or call or go to any local emergency room.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF COMMUNICATIONS

I use HIPAA-compliant Google Voice for text messages, voicemail, and phone-based therapy sessions. Video sessions are hosted through my secure client portal.

Occasionally, I may need to consult with other professionals in order to provide the best treatment for you. Information about you may be shared in this consultation context without using your name or other identifying information.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATES

Under the law, all health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
